Aloha Family!
Now that the holidays are behind us, reunion planning is in full swing! We decided to start a blog for those who don't have or don't check Facebook. I'll be posting here as often as I have updates. We plan on meeting every two weeks up until the reunion. I'll be updating the Facebook page with these posts, but if you want, send me your email and I'll add you as a subscriber to this blog so you can receive updates straight to your email inbox. Let's keep all comments on the blog rather than Facebook so that everyone can see them.
Please send me the emails of any family members you have so I can add them as well. I'm not in touch with everybody so I'm counting on you guys to get the word out.
Here are the things we discussed last week:
The dates for the reunion are set for July 10-12. We put together a VERY rough itinerary that can be changed. Since this is our first reunion, we want to keep things as simple as possible. We're open to any suggestions you have.
Thursday 7/10 - Welcome everyone to Hilo throughout the day and meet at Grandpa and Grandma's grave site to start things off. Reconvene at G/G's home for dinner and reconnecting.
Friday 7/11 - Gather at the Stake Center or Ponahawai Chapel for family history workshops, fun and games for kids, and hang out. Free time in the afternoon. Open to suggestions.
Family and Friends Night - invite G/G's, Aunty Valerie, and Aunty Miki's friends over for dinner and story telling, probably at a chapel. Kailimai's, Veloria's, Callawag's, etc.
Saturday 7/12 - Rent a bus and travel to the family's historic sites in the greater Hilo area. Free time in the afternoon.
Dinner, talent show, and open mic for testimonies or sharing whatever. Close.
Things that we need to begin resolving include:
- accommodations
- meals
- cost per family / person
- t-shirts (?)
- activities
- head count
We'll be meeting again on 2/16/14 at G/G's house at 6 p.m. HT. Everyone is welcome to join by skype or phone.
We are so excited about having this our first family reunion for the William and Chiyo Meyers' Ohana and look forward to working with you all and then seeing you all in July! Please don't hesitate to share your mana`o as we go full blast on planning.
